International Women’s Day (IWD) has been around since 1911 and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Celebrated every March 8, this day marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
There's urgent work to do - and we can all play a part.
It’s a day for all who care about women’s equality, raising awareness about bias and discrimination, and celebrating women.
IWD has a strong history of visible collective action across the globe.
IWD aims to forge inclusive work cultures where women’s careers thrive, and their achievements are celebrated. It helps to raise awareness that gender bias exists, like the gender pay gap, lack of representation of leadership roles, gender-based violence, and unequal access to education and opportunities. And it fosters solidarity so anyone can join in the fight for women’s rights and gender parity worldwide.
Many countries recognise IWD as an official holiday like Afghanistan, Armenia, Cuba, Laos, Montenegro, Nepal, Russia, Uganda, Ukraine, Zambia, among others.
The theme for IWD 2025 is #AccelerateAction for gender equality. Gender parity won't be attained for quite some time. The World Economic Forum says it will take until 2158, which is roughly five generations from now, to reach full gender parity.
Accelerate Action emphasizes the importance of taking swift, bold and decisive steps to positively impact gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both personally and professionally.
Significant barriers to gender equality remain, yet with the right action and support, positive progress can be made for women everywhere. Together, we can Accelerate Action to speed up the rate of progress worldwide.
The Diversity Advancement Committee is also all about accelerating action. In our fifth year as a committee, we are working with the entire CXPA and wider CX community to continuously forge a culture of inclusivity and belonging. While we have taken giant steps, there’s a lot of work to do. We are especially proud to expand our work to the international stage, and why IWD means so much.
And one of the biggest ways to help Accelerate Action for gender equality is to support our own.
Please join me in celebrating and honouring our female leaders and staff of the CXPA. As the CXPA is championing diversity advancement as we promote inclusive CX, we want to show our solidarity to the IWD cause.
Collective action and shared ownership for driving gender party is what makes IWD impactful. As Gloria Steinem said, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
When women's contributions and participation are valued, workplaces and communities are strengthened, growth occurs, and greater progress and opportunities prevail. To accelerate action, celebrate the women of CXPA or even in your workplace or community by publicly showing your appreciation for them.
